Student Nurse Patient Care Technician PRN - ICU Stepdown Unit - The Jewish Hospital

Work Shift: Days (United States of America)

Student Nurse PCT - work a minimum of 36 hours in 6 weeks, 12 of those hours must be weekend hours.

Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Student Nurse provides direct patient care under the guidance of the Registered Nurse or designated healthcare professional in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and within the policies, procedures, and guidelines of Bon Secours Mercy Health.

Essential Job Functions
  • Supports the nurse in applying the nursing process under RN direction.
  • Develops critical thinking skills through collaboration with RN for quality patient care.
  • Seeks educational opportunities related to nursing practice and critical thinking.
  • Provides basic patient care, including comfort, vital signs, hygiene, and mobility, including unit-specific duties.
  • Acts as liaison between patient and nurse to report changes or concerns.
  • Delivers high-quality customer service to patients, families, visitors, and staff.
  • Documents patient care accurately and timely.
  • Participates in hand-offs and reports pertinent information upon patient transfer.
  • Performs delegated tasks once competency is validated.
Education

HS/GED (required). Currently enrolled in a nursing program with at least one clinical course and one clinical rotation completed (required).

Certifications

BLS (preferred).

Training

Completion of First Clinical Rotation as a Nursing Student. EPIC EHR training (preferred).

Work Experience

Recent experience in acute or long-term care (preferred).

Working Conditions

May include high stress, physical altercations, exposure to weather, noise, body fluids, and travel. Periods of interruptions and working alone are possible.

Patient Population

Provides age-appropriate care for neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Knowledge of growth, development, and assessment is required.

Physical Requirements

Varies from lifting 0-50 lbs. to 50-100 lbs., with activities like standing, walking, bending, and more.

Additional Physical & Skill Requirements

Manual dexterity, shift work, maneuvering patients, sensory abilities, exposure to hazards, and technical skills are necessary.
