Job summary

UPMC’s Student Nurse Internship (SNI) program offers a 10-week paid experience during the Summer of 2027, allowing you to work side-by-side with a preceptor and observe day-to-day nursing activities. Interns will participate in educational sessions and build confidence as future nurses at UPMC facilities.

Location opportunities include UPMC Western Maryland (Cumberland, MD). Applicants must upload a Resume and Nursing Transcripts at submission, and monitor email for updates and offer details.

Qualifications

• Nursing student seeking hands-on experience with a preceptor.

Responsibilities

• Work one-on-one with a trained preceptor to observe a day in the life of a nurse.
• Participate in supplementary educational sessions to continue learning.
• Shadow at least one additional area of nursing.
• Work up to 40 hours/week following the preceptor’s schedule.

About the Program

UPMC’s Student Nurse Internship (SNI) program allows you to put what you learned in nursing school into practice by working side-by-side with a preceptor.This is a temporary 10-week paid opportunity during the Summer of 2027.

During the internship you will have the opportunity to:

• Work one-on-one with a trained preceptor to see a day in the life of a nurse at UPMC
• Participate in supplementary educational sessions to continue your learning journey
• Build your confidence as a future nurse
• Work at one hospital for the summer (*Assignment shared at time of offer)
• Shadow at least one additional area of nursing at your hospital placement
• Work up to 40 hours/week (*SNIs follow their preceptor’s schedule; we understand obligations may not permit you to work a full-time schedule, we can accommodate!)
• Apply to system-wide Graduate Nurse opportunities at UPMC before you even leave the summer program
• Network with UPMC Nursing Leadership and receive mentorship
