Job summary

Dallas Regional Medical Center, part of Prime Healthcare, is seeking a Student Extern nursing student to join the patient care team on a per diem basis.

Under RN supervision, the extern provides direct patient care at the level of their clinical training, starting as a nursing assistant and advancing as clearance is obtained.

Qualifications

• Must be in their 4th year of a nursing program.
• Must be in good and academic standing.
• Current Basic Life Support Certification.
• Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.

Responsibilities

• The Student Extern is an adjunct to the patient care team under RN supervision; provides direct patient care within established protocols.
• Initially functions as a nursing assistant prior to advancement once cleared by supervisor.

Responsibilities

The Student Extern is an adjunct to the patient care team. The extern performs at the level that has successfully been completed and passed in the clinical section at a local college. Under the general supervision of an RN the extern provides direct patient care in accordance with the established protocols, the skills they are able to perform are expanded. All newly hired externs will first function in the capacity of a nursing assistant, regardless of their nursing program clinical level. When the student has been cleared by the Supervisor, they may be moved to their appropriate skill level.
