Job summary

HCA Healthcare, Inc. in Dallas is seeking a Nurse Extern to gain hands-on experience while supporting the nursing team. You will assist with ADLs, monitor vital signs, support mobility and comfort, and learn to perform basic nursing tasks under supervision.

You'll document care, communicate updates to the team, help patients and families understand care plans, and participate in infection prevention. This role is an excellent path for students progressing through their ADN/BSN program.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in an accredited ADN or BSN program.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
• Completed Foundations, Fundamentals, or Med Surg I.
• Professional communication skill.
• Meet scheduling requirements – one 12 hour shift per week or 4 - 12 hour shifts per month

Responsibilities

• Providing essential care for patients by helping with ADLs, checking vital signs, supporting mobility, and ensuring comfort.
• Performing nursing tasks like wound care, catheter care, collecting specimens, and other basic procedures as you gain experience.
• Documenting care accurately and communicating timely updates with the nursing team to keep patient care seamless and coordinated.
• Helping patients and families understand their care plans and offering guidance for their health and recovery.
• Keeping patient areas clean and safe by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and maintaining an organized environment.
• Championing your growth and enhancing patient care by engaging in learning opportunities, sharing ideas to improve care, and partnering with your supervisor or preceptor to build your personal career development plan

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing essential care for patients by helping with ADLs (Activities of Daily Living), checking vital signs, supporting mobility, and ensuring comfort and hygiene

• Performing nursing tasks like wound care, catheter care, collecting specimens, and other basic procedures as you gain experience and grow in your competency

• Documenting care accurately and communicating timely updates with the nursing team to keep patient care seamless and coordinated

• Helping patients and families understand their care plans and offering guidance for their health and recovery

• Keeping patient areas clean and safe by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and maintaining an organized environment
