Job summary

AMG Specialty Hospital – Houma is offering a paid Student Nurse Extern position. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, you will gain clinical experience and assist in patient care for adults 18 and up. The extern will shadow an RN for three months, then transition into a CNA role while nursing school remains a priority. Hours are determined individually.

This is a paid extern position with opportunities to develop skills in a long-term acute care setting alongside nursing professionals.

Qualifications

• Must be actively enrolled and in the final year of nursing school.
• Must provide written reference from instructor.
• Must be in good academic standing in the school of nursing.
• Must provide BLS Certification.
• Must work minimally 24 hours per month while shadowing, 12 hours per month following the initial shadow period.

Responsibilities

• Under RN supervision, provide direct nursing care appropriate to training and competency.
• Participate in patient care using approved technologies/interventions.
• Complete a 3-month shadow experience with an RN and transition into a CNA role until graduation.

Summary

AMG Specialty Hospital –Houma is hiring aStudent Nurse Extern.The student nurse extern functions under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse which will allow him/her to gain experience in the clinical setting. The primary focus is education and assisting the student nurse to transition into position as a graduate nurse in the hiring hospital. The extern will care for patients ranging from 18 and up. Under the direction of an RN, the student nurse extern will provide direct nursing care as appropriate to training and competency for assigned patients within established policies, procedures, and protocols of the hospital. This is a temporary position.The Student Nurse Extern shall not perform any clinical procedure without having validation of skill competency the RN.The Nurse Extern under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse preceptor shall participate in the patient care utilizing technologies/interventions.Per the Student Nurse Extern program, the Extern will complete a 3-month shadow experience with an RN. Once completed, the Extern will transition into a CNA role until graduation. Hours will be determined on an individual basis as nursing school is a priority.
