Position Summary
The Student Minister leads The Mount Church’s Student Ministry, carrying out the church’s mission of “Following
Jesus Together” among students in 7th–12th grade and their families. Working alongside staff and volunteers,
this leader creates safe, Gospel-centered environments where students encounter biblical truth, grow as
disciples, build meaningful relationships, and learn to carry the Gospel into their schools and homes. The role
calls for a passion for partnering with parents, developing volunteer and student leaders, and building an
organized, welcoming ministry that helps students take meaningful next steps in following Jesus together.

General Responsibilities
1) Students Growing as Disciples
- Provide vision, strategy, and day-to-day leadership for Student Ministry, ensuring alignment with The Mount’s mission, doctrine, and values.
- Lead and oversee weekly ministry environments, including Midweek worship and Student CGs (Community Groups).
- Plan and deliver biblically faithful, Gospel-centered teaching that is relevant and applicable to students.
- Create pathways that help students understand and respond to the Gospel, develop spiritual practices, serve others, share their faith, and celebrate milestones such as salvation and baptism.
- Shepherd students through prayer, discipleship, consistent presence, and appropriate soul care throughout the week.
- Be present, visible, and engaged on Sundays and Wednesdays, building meaningful relationships with students, parents, volunteers, and new families.
- Regularly evaluate teaching, weekly environments, participation, and discipleship strategies for effectiveness and improvement.
2) Safe, Welcoming & Excellent Ministry Environments
- Champion a ministry culture in which the physical, emotional, spiritual, and relational safety of every student is a clear priority.
- Implement and consistently enforce all MinistrySafe requirements, student-protection policies, check-in procedures, transportation guidelines, and emergency protocols.
- Maintain accurate records for volunteer screening, background checks, training, incidents, attendance, permissions, and relevant student information.
- Train staff and adult Student Ministry volunteers in appropriate boundaries, group leadership, emergency response, and best practices for safely engaging students.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to safety concerns, incidents, disclosures, and policy violations in coordination with church leadership.
- Plan, prepare, and execute camps, conferences, retreats, and seasonal events with clear Gospel-centered purpose, strong communication, thoughtful logistics, and appropriate follow-up.
- Ensure ministry spaces are prepared, welcoming, secure, and supplied for each gathering.
3) Strong Partnership with Parents & Families
- Partner with parents as the primary disciplers of their students by providing practical, accessible resources, curriculum recaps, and encouragement.
- Develop a regular rhythm of parenting workshops and training opportunities that equip parents with biblical, practical tools for discipling their kids.
- Connect with new students and families through prompt follow-up, personal invitations, and clear next steps.
- Communicate consistently with parents about ministry updates, teaching, events, policies, schedules, and opportunities for involvement.
- Create reliable processes for tracking guests, absences, care needs, and follow-up so students and families do not fall through the cracks.
- Be a ministerial presence for families navigating spiritual questions, teenage challenges, crises, and significant spiritual milestones.
- Build trust with families through professionalism, discretion, responsiveness, and a warm, Christlike spirit.
- Coordinate appropriate care and follow-up with parents, adult Student Ministry volunteers, staff, and church leadership when needs arise.
4) A Healthy, Equipped & Multiplying Ministry Team
- Recruit, screen, onboard, train, coach, schedule, and care for adult Student Ministry volunteers.
- Build a broader leadership pipeline that develops adult Student Ministry volunteers and students to disciple others, lead teams, and multiply future leaders.
- Maintain consistent rhythms for team communication, training, appreciation, connection, evaluation, and followup.
- Ensure each Student CG and ministry environment is appropriately staffed with trusted and equipped leaders.
- Provide clear expectations, resources, feedback, and accountability so leaders can serve confidently and effectively.
- Supervise, develop, and support the Student Ministry Associate through clear expectations, regular coaching, and shared ministry ownership.
- Cultivate a team culture marked by prayer, humility, accountability, encouragement, collaboration, and sustainable service.
5) Organized & Sustainable Ministry Systems
- Steward the Student Ministry budget, calendar, teaching resources, registrations, supplies, technology, and spaces responsibly.
- Oversee Planning Center systems related to volunteer scheduling, registrations, attendance, communication, and family information.
- Maintain organized documentation and workflows so ministry information is accessible, accurate, and consistent.
- Develop annual ministry goals, plans, budgets, calendars, and measurable indicators of ministry health.
- Participate in staff meetings, key ministry planning rhythms, church-wide events, and leadership development.
- Work collaboratively with elders, staff, and ministry leaders to align calendars, facilities, messaging, promotion, pastoral care, and family ministry efforts.
- Communicate Student Ministry priorities, needs, challenges, and wins clearly to the Connections & Care Pastor and relevant staff.
- Model a culture of prayer, humility, ownership, healthy communication, continuous improvement, and joyful service.

- A growing, mature follower of Jesus Christ with behavior and character consistent with biblical teaching.

- A genuine love for students and families and a desire to see the next generation follow Jesus.
- Highly relational and emotionally mature—able to connect with students, parents, and volunteers from varied backgrounds and handle sensitive situations with discretion and wisdom.
- A collaborative, team-first leader who communicates openly, welcomes input, shares ownership, and works across ministry areas to advance the mission of the whole church.
- Committed to student safety, appropriate ministry boundaries, and consistent accountability.
- Organized, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple moving pieces without losing the relational and ministry focus of the role.
- Able to lead both strategically and practically, moving comfortably between vision, people development, teaching, administration, and hands-on ministry needs.
Experience & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Ministry, Biblical Studies, Youth Ministry, Christian Education, or a related field preferred; relevant ministry experience will be considered in place of a degree.
- 5 years of proven leadership experience in student or family ministry within a local church.
- Demonstrated ability to build teams, develop volunteer and student leaders, and create healthy volunteer systems.
- Understanding of adolescent development, age-appropriate teaching, group leadership, and family discipleship.
- Strong communicator—both when teaching students and when communicating with parents, volunteers, staff, and church leadership.
- Experience planning and executing weekly ministry environments, camps, retreats, and student events.
- Demonstrated ability to implement student-safety policies and lead teams with consistency and accountability.
- Proficient with common church and office software, including Planning Center, ProPresenter, and Microsoft products, with the ability to learn new tools quickly.
Work Rhythm / Expectations
- Standard office hours are Monday through Thursday, 9:00 AM–4:00 PM, with the expectation of also being present on Sundays and Wednesday evenings.
- Additional evening, weekend, and seasonal responsibilities are expected for volunteer training, camps, retreats, ministry events, and church-wide gatherings.
- Participate fully in the life of the church, contributing to the unity, health, and shepherding of The Mount Church.
- Maintain a healthy, sustainable pace and model wise boundaries while remaining responsive to genuine ministry needs.
Compensation / Notes
- Compensation and benefits will be determined based on experience and alignment with The Mount’s compensation structure.
- $60,000–$70,000 salary range.
- Simple IRA with an optional 3% match.
- Housing Allowance / Ministerial Status: Persons employed in this position may be commissioned as ministers by the Elders of The Mount Church and may qualify for ministerial tax-status benefits.
