Job Summary

Provide peer mentoring to TAMIU CAMP students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform peer mentoring for freshmen or transfer students.
  • Meet individually with students weekly.
  • Maintain current and confidential records and information.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with university instructors and college staff.
  • Prepare written reports related to student mentoring and other related assignments.
  • Attend TAMIU CAMP staff meetings, training, and workshops regularly.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
  • Current TAMIU student with 60 credit hours or more at the time of appointment.
  • Enrolled at least half‑time: 6 credit hours per semester for undergraduate students and 3 credit hours per semester for graduate students.
  • Maintain a TAMIU overall GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduate students.
  • Meet all other requirements as stated in TAMIU’s Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAPP).
Preferred Experience
  • Migrant or seasonal farm worker background.
  • Experience with student engagement activities.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

  • Computer literate.
  • Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Interact effectively and professionally with students and staff.
  • Motivate students.
  • Work effectively in teams.
  • Speak in front of large groups.

  • Position requires on‑campus face‑to‑face interactions.
  • Position requires maintaining a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.
  • Work schedules are created by the department based on departmental needs but must not conflict with class schedule.
  • Promptly complete all required trainings.
  • Submit time sheet bi‑weekly.
  • Some evening and weekend work may be required.
  • Subject to funding and/or need.
Pay

Rate: $9.00 per hour for up to 19 hours weekly.
