The Critical Care Laboratory utilizes a total laboratory automated system that delivers specimens to automated chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, blood gases, and immunochemistry and coagulation analyzers. Student technologist will use the laboratory computer system to review report and call critical values to various healthcare professionals. Student techs will perform and document quality control, quality assurance and preventative maintenance on instrumentation. Student employees will work in the following areas of the lab, chemistry, immunochemistry, blood gas, hematology and coagulation. The laboratory also provides training for residents, new staff and medical technology students. The laboratory is staffed 24 hours per day, Sunday through Saturday.
The student laboratory technologist performs routine automated and manual procedures, verifies and reports test requests and results. Handles phone inquiries regarding patient results, specimen collection and testing frequency. CCL staff uses the laboratory computer system to review report and call critical values to various healthcare professionals. Laboratory staff performs and documents quality control, quality assurance and preventative maintenance on instrumentation. Student medical laboratory technicians work under the direction of the Lab manager and lead technologist.
