Position Summary

The Student Assistant for School of Osteopathic Medicine (Brooks Campus) is responsible for providing basic circulation assistance. The Student Assistant reports to the Director of Library Services.

Essential Functions

  • Use of the library’s software to provide circulation assistance to patrons.
  • Keep library space clean and organized.
  • Shelve/shift books; conduct shelf reading.
  • Aid in the de-accessioning of library materials.
  • Assist with opening and/or closing procedures for the library.
  • Refer individuals to appropriate library personnel when needed.
  • Assist patrons with basic computer software and hardware questions.
  • Maintain printers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Professional attitude and demeanor in a public service environment.
  • Punctuality and attentiveness to clients.
  • Good oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to manage basic computer hardware issues.
  • Proficiency in the use of productivity software.
  • Ability to learn quickly, work independently and solve problems.
  • Ability to follow directions and enforce Library policy.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA .
Required Education

Must be a currently enrolled student at UIW with an overall GPA of 2.5 or greater.

Required Work Experience

  • Experience working with the public, working with computers, photocopiers, printers.
  • Excellent attendance record with a current or previous employer.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in a graduate or professional program.
  • Knowledge of Library operations/services, audiovisual equipment, and computer software.

None.

Work Hours

Weekday afternoon/evening and weekend hours during the School of Osteopathic Medicine academic calendar.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift at least 20 lbs. and push/pull/move book trucks in excess of 100 lbs.
  • Ability to reach overhead, bend, squat, and climb stairs to retrieve library materials.
  • Ability to regularly move about library and campus, as well as actively engage with patrons.
