Job summary

American University is seeking an Intramural Sports Official to enforce the rules of the game and maintain control of events. This part-time position is open only to enrolled AU students and offers roughly 12 hours per week, with a pay rate of $18.40 per hour.

Responsibilities include wearing the proper uniform, timely shifts, field teardown, emergency protocol adherence, and clear communication with staff.

Qualifications

• Understand and demonstrate a proficiency in enforcement of all Intramural policies and procedures.
• Demonstrate an understanding of all IM sport specific rules.
• Have the ability to work hours during evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Wear proper uniform and represent the department in a professional manner.
• Report to all scheduled shifts on time (15 minutes prior to the start of the games).
• Inspect and assist with teardown of field/court of play at the end of each game, including trash clean-up and lost and found.
• Understand and implement emergency protocol and procedures as needed.
• Maintain positive and effective communication with patrons, co-workers and management.
• Conduct a pregame meeting.
• Highlight points of emphasis, answer questions, and emphasize sportsmanship.
• Report all facility abuse or participant discipline problems with detailed written reports.
