Under the supervision of our engineering staff, you will evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to support transportation‑related civil engineering projects. You will receive clear instructions and technical guidance on project objectives, methods, and potential solutions. Assistance is provided by design engineers on most assignments, and your work will be reviewed to ensure sound engineering judgment.

Pay Range: $20–$25/hour

Hours: 15–20 hours per week to start, increasing to full-time during the summer.

What You'll Do:
  • Perform engineering tasks involving conventional design methods and solutions with low to moderate complexity.
  • Use computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) software to develop working plans and detailed drawings.
  • Create and revise maps, charts, graphics, exhibits, and diagrams.
  • Participate in field survey activities as part of a survey crew.
  • Assist in preparing engineering reports and cost estimates.
  • Utilize engineering software to support organization, accuracy, and efficiency of calculations.
  • Conduct basic engineering analysis, design, and detailing for project plans and construction material quantities.
  • Assist with developing or maintaining engineering-related computer programs and systems (all work must follow CAD standards, drafting manuals, and file management protocols).
  • Organize and maintain engineering calculations for roadway, bridge, hydraulic, and other civil designs.
  • Perform additional duties as needed, which may include administrative tasks such as filing, answering phones, or assisting with business-related activities.
What You'll Need:
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited university, with progress toward upper‑division civil engineering coursework.
  • Demonstrated passion for learning and growing in the engineering profession.

This hybrid job operates between an office environment and a field environment and routinely requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones and copy machines. May require occasional exposure to work environments that may include inclement weather, heat, humidity, noise, hazard, atmospheric conditions, and bodies of water, depending on project requirements.

While performing the duties of this job, physical demands of the employee include frequent sitting, moving, standing, talking, hearing, and occasional balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping, and feeling.
