Job summary

Stanley Consultants invites applications for a Student Intern in Transportation Traffic at our Chicago, IL office. The intern will learn basic traffic engineering principles, assist with traffic studies and design, and support signing, pavement marking, signals, lighting, and ITS plans.

The role emphasizes assisting staff, performing calculations, and gaining exposure to traffic engineering software while supporting state and municipal projects. Part-time, onsite in Chicago area.

Qualifications

• Must be a college junior and enrolled in an accredited civil engineering program.
• Pursuing a BS in Civil Engineering; local Greater Chicago area preferred.
• Interest in pursuing a career in traffic engineering.
• Traffic engineering experience and/or coursework preferred.

Responsibilities

• Understand engineering studies, drawings, and specifications.
• Perform and check engineering calculations.
• Perform quantity calculations and take-offs.
• Basic operation of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
• Prepare Traffic Engineering studies utilizing Microsoft Office products.
• Performing field visits.
• Gain familiarity with traffic engineering software.
• Back checking drawings.

Stanley Consultants is seeking a Student Intern to work in our Traffic Engineering Department for the Chicago, IL office. The Student Intern will develop an understanding of basic traffic engineering principles including traffic studies and design for a variety of projects including signing and pavement marking, traffic signals, roadway lighting, traffic control plans, construction sequencing, and FMS/ITS plans. The Student Intern will provide assistance to Traffic Engineering Department staff in executing tasks associated with various state and municipal projects.

• Understanding engineering studies, drawings, and specifications
• Performing and checking engineering calculations
• Performing quantity calculations and take-offs
• Basic operation of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
• Preparing Traffic Engineering studies utilizing Microsoft Office products
• Performing field visits
• Gaining familiarity with traffic engineering software

• Must have attained a minimum status as a college junior AND
• Must be currently enrolled in an accredited civil engineering program AND
• Must be pursuing a minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering
• Local (Greater Chicago area) candidates are strongly preferred as this position is part-time and suitable for a current civil engineering student
• Must be interested in pursuing a career in traffic engineering

• Traffic engineering experience and/or class work is strongly preferred
