Job summary

A municipal government is seeking Student Interns to gain valuable experience in public sector operations. Interns are expected to support various administrative tasks, analyze data, and assist in community programs. Candidates must be currently enrolled in an accredited institution and able to work flexible hours during the summer. The Student Intern Program is for students seeking to gain knowledge of, and valuable work experience in public sector / city government operations. Work hours are flexible to meet the needs of students and city departments. These are temporary positions. Internships are limited to one academic year.

These internships are for the summer.

Essential Duties
  • Assigned duties specific to the operational needs of the operating department where the internship is performed
  • Performs various administrative functions to support program activities
  • Compiles, tabulates, and analyzes statistical data, and research and collect information for inclusion in studies and reports
  • Uses various software packages to type documents, create spreadsheets and maintain databases
  • Provides general information regarding programs and services to the public
  • Reviews and processes applications for programs and services and explains program requirements to applicants
  • Maintains records and prepares work reports
  • Performs various office clerical functions
  • Participates in the organization’s set-up and administration of special events and program activities
  • Performs related duties as required
Additional Duties May Be Required For This Position

Location: Jardine Water Purification Plant, 1000 E. Ohio

Days: Monday through Friday

Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

THIS POSITION IS EXEMPT FROM THE CAREER SERVICE

Eligibility

Must be a student currently enrolled in an accredited college, university, or law school OR a student currently enrolled in an accredited business or data processing/ information technology school. At the time of application, you must attach a Resume, Current transcripts (unofficial transcripts are acceptable if the cumulative grade point average is reflected) and a Current Letter of Enrollment Verification from the School's Registrar/Dean confirming current enrollment (or National Student Clearinghouse Proof of Enrollment Certificate) at the time of hire. You must be enrolled in school (with the exception of academic breaks) throughout your internship if you are selected.

Selection Requirements

These positions require applicants to complete an interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position will be selected.

Preference

Preference will be given to applicants possessing the following: Engineering, Chemistry, Information technology and Business Administration.
