Jobtailor is seeking a dedicated lab assistant to help manage the Gern laboratory in Seattle. You will support experiments, perform advanced techniques like confocal microscopy and flow cytometry, and assist in data interpretation and presentation.

You will contribute to various projects, organize the lab, manage supplies, and ensure accurate record-keeping while applying current scientific methods and knowledge. This role emphasizes independent judgment and collaboration within a research team.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Currently enrolled in high school or in college/university pursuing an undergraduate degree, or taking prerequisites for a future degree program.
  • Data entry and word processing experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • Administrative experience in a research setting preferred.
  • Currently enrolled in college level courses at an accredited college or university preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the day-to-day operation of the Gern laboratory.
  • Assist lab members with experiments.
  • Design, execute, interpret, and present experimental results.
  • Contribute to ongoing laboratory projects.
  • Learn and apply existing and emerging scientific methods and knowledge.
  • Exercise independent judgment to address tasks and projects.
  • Identify and refine existing procedures and practices.
  • Participate in managing a small rodent colony.
  • Perform advanced confocal microscopy techniques.
  • Perform flow cytometry.
  • Perform cell culture.
  • Genotype mice using DNA extraction, PCR, and agarose gel electrophoresis.
  • Organize the lab, order supplies, and maintain records.
  • Set up immunological assays.
  • Provide general lab support
