Summary
The position of a Community Development Assistant (CDA) is a part‑time student employment opportunity in the Department of Housing and Residence Life at the University of Wisconsin—Stevens Point. CDAs live in the residence hall they serve and support hall staff through creative, design‑based, and collaborative efforts.
Benefits
- Double room waiver for all halls except Suites@201.
- Suite assignments: individuals assigned to a four‑person suite with single‑occupant bedrooms; waiver for single‑occupancy bedroom.
- Full waiver of each semester’s meal plan fees as specified by the Department of Housing and Residence Life.
- Stipend: $650 per semester for the first and second semesters, increasing to $700 per semester thereafter.
Hours
Maximum of 20 hours per week during academic semesters.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with hall staff in developing materials, strategies, and supporting social and hall programs as directed by the Residence Hall Director (RHD).
- Attend hall activities and events as specified by the RHD.
- Create community development materials (e.g., bulletin boards) and facilitate educational conversations with residents regarding housing policies.
- Model a wellness lifestyle and educate students about the community development model through creative efforts.
- Encourage student ideas and involvement throughout the residence hall.
- Maintain open communication with the RHD regarding programming plans and resident concerns.
- Complete necessary administrative tasks for hall staff programs (SPIN logistics, marketing, etc.).
- Attend all weekly meetings scheduled by the RHD and conduct monthly health and safety checks of residence hall rooms.
- Co‑supervise with the RHD and schedule desk staff, including Resident Assistants.
- Plan and facilitate front desk staff meetings to share information, monitor processes, and provide feedback.
- Provide co‑advising support for program board teams and participate in the planning of student events.
- Communicate openly and honestly with the RHD, other RAs, and designated staff while maintaining confidentiality.
- Serve as campus security authority and complete required training; report incidents to the appropriate offices.
- Uphold FERPA and TitleIX responsibilities related to sexual harassment and related conduct.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at the start of employment.
- Full‑time enrollment (minimum 12 credits) with no more than 16 credits unless approved by the RHD.
- At least two semesters of residence hall living experience prior to employment.
- Experience in the Department of Housing and Residence Life as a student leader (Program Board, desk receptionist, RA, etc.) for at least two semesters.
- Successful completion of a criminal background check, misconduct reference check, and position of trust check.
- Ability to work the full contracted dates for the entire 2026‑2027 academic year.
- Creative thinking and communication skills; experience planning or delivering educational or wellness content preferred.
- Experience completing administrative tasks and working with diverse groups of people preferable.
- Leadership experience (e.g., coaching, executive board, tutor) preferred.
Required Conditions
- Live in the assigned residence hall whenever the university is in session.
- Maintain a good conduct standing with no further conduct incidents after contract starts.
- Must be eligible for SSA reporting and TitleIX reporting; report incidents to the Office of the Dean of Students.
- Prior university conduct records will be reviewed before employment.
- Background check required for employment.
