Compensation and Benefits
Room Benefits: All halls except Suites@201 receive a double room waiver contingent upon the 2025‑2026 budget approval. Suites@201: individuals assigned to a four‑person suite; each person assigned a single‑occupant bedroom. A waiver is granted to the single‑occupancy bedroom. Full waiver of each semester’s meal‑plan fees as specified by the Department of Housing and Residence Life.
Stipend: $650 per semester for the first and second semester of service as a CDA; increases to $700 per semester after the second semester.
Hours
A maximum of 20 hours per week may be worked during academic semesters.
General Function and Scope of Responsibility
The Community Development Assistant (CDA) is a student staff member who lives within the residence hall they are employed in. CDAs promote hall staff success through creativity, design, and collaboration in halls ranging from 250‑325 residents. They attend training, design and create materials for hall staff, conduct educational conversations, partner with hall professional staff to promote student development, and complete administrative tasks. This position is part‑time and is performed in conjunction with the employee’s full‑time academic schedule.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with hall staff in developing materials, strategies, and supporting social and hall programs, as specified by the Residence Hall Director (RHD).
- Attend hall activities and events as specified by the RHD.
- Collaborate with hall staff in creating materials for community development efforts such as bulletin boards within common spaces that are not resident‑assistant floor specific.
- Facilitate educational conversations with residents around community standards and policies.
- Assist hall staff in modeling a wellness lifestyle and teaching students about the community development model through creative efforts such as bulletin boards, programs, etc.
- Encourage student ideas and involvement throughout the residence hall.
- Maintain open and frequent communication with the RHD about programming plans and resident concerns.
- Complete necessary administrative tasks for hall staff programs (SPIN logistics, marketing, etc.).
- Complete five (5) office hours a week for administrative desk responsibilities.
- Attend all weekly meetings scheduled by the RHD (one‑on‑ones, staff meetings, etc.).
- Conduct monthly health and safety checks of residence hall rooms and report any issues/concerns to the RHD.
- Train, co‑supervise with the RHD, and schedule desk staff including Resident Assistants.
- Plan and facilitate front desk staff meetings as needed to share information, monitor processes, and provide feedback on improvements.
- Provide co‑advising support for hall Program Board teams in organizing and implementing events for students.
- Meet regularly with Program Board members to give ongoing training, discuss upcoming events, provide direction and guidance, and evaluate activities.
- Participate openly and honestly in communication with the RHD, other RAs, and other designated staff.
- Participate actively in meetings, trainings, and other activities.
- Support the decisions of the Department of Housing and Residence Life, the RHD and other staff.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding job‑related information and relationships with staff.
- Convey accurate information related to decisions, policies, and actions of other staff.
Additional Responsibilities
- Serve as Campus Security Authority, as outlined by the Cleary Act, including completion of required training and reporting of all crimes to the university.
- Report witnessed or otherwise reported incidents of sexual assault to the Office of the Dean of Students.
- Uphold FERPA and protect confidential information of students and their support systems.
- Serve as a Responsible Employee, as defined by Title IX and UWSP Policy 14.2, reporting thorough and complete information about sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, stalking, and other gender‑based discrimination.
Conditions of Employment
- Maintain the position for the entire academic year of contract.
- Have lived in a residence hall or other communal living experience for at least two semesters by the start of employment.
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5; a semester GPA of 1.50 or lower may result in contract rescission.
- Be a full‑time student enrolled in a minimum of twelve credits each semester of employment; carry no more than sixteen credits unless prior approval is obtained from the RHD.
- Obtain RHD approval before committing to any major extracurricular activities, including officer positions and intercollegiate athletics.
- Be in good conduct standing with the university at the time the contract begins and maintain no conduct incidents after the contract is signed.
- Undergo a criminal background check.
- Model positive behaviors appropriate to the university community and comply with all rules and regulations expected of all students and employees of UW‑Stevens Point.
- Fulfill individual hall requirements, including programming needs, meetings, and ongoing training set by the RHD.
- Live in the assigned residence hall whenever the university is in session; the hall assignment may change each year.
- Allow the department to reassign CDAs based on occupancy needs or hall structure changes at any time.
- After two years in a community, move to a new community style regardless of supervisor to promote professional development.
Required Qualifications
- Pass a Criminal Background Check, Misconduct Reference Check, and Position of Trust with vulnerable populations check.
- Be available to work the full contracted date for the entire 2026‑2027 academic year.
- Have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at the start of employment.
- Have experience living in a residence hall for more than two semesters (or other related communal living).
- Have experience in the Department of Housing and Residence Life as a student leader within the residence halls (Program Board, Desk Receptionist, Resident Assistant, Residence Hall Association, etc.) for two semesters (summers included).
- Be enrolled as a full‑time student at UW‑Stevens Point (12‑credit minimum).
- Show ability to think and create items creatively without compromising messaging of items.
Preferred Qualifications
- Leadership experience (coaching, executive board position, tutor, general member of a group, etc.).
- Experience educating individuals (health, wellness, academics, life skills, etc.).
- Experience planning, developing, and/or implementing events.
- Experience completing administrative tasks.
- Experience working with diverse groups of people.
Education
Must be a current UW‑SP student.
