Job summary

Sylvania in Amarillo, Texas is seeking a library assistant to support a welcoming library environment for students and staff. The role includes helping locate and shelve books, processing new materials, and supporting daily library operations.

You will assist teachers and students, support class supervision, and help maintain order and inventory while providing friendly service to patrons.

Qualifications

Must have a pleasing personality and a desire to work with students.
Must have the ability to assume responsibility for some direct instruction of students.
Must be able to work with students to maintain an orderly atmosphere.
Must have a general knowledge of working with computers.

Responsibilities

Processes new books and periodicals.
Processes audio-visual materials and equipment.
Assists in preparing purchase order requests and ordering materials for the library.
Assists teachers and students in the selection and location of books and other materials.
Assists the school librarian in supervising classes in the library.
Prepares and distributes overdue book notices, collects fines for damages, and handles lost book titles and issues receipts.
Checks in books, magazines, and catalogues.
Assists in maintaining inventory of supplies.
Assists in bar-coding materials, typing labels, shelving books and videos.
Assists teachers in the collection of materials as requested.
Repairs damaged books.
Relieves the school librarian of some non-teaching duties.
Maintains a sincere, friendly attitude towards district and campus staff and faculty, parents, and students to insure communication.
Performs other duties as assigned.
