Job summary

Pendergast Elementary School District in Desert Horizon School (Phoenix) seeks an Instructional Assistant Student Specific to support teachers, adapt lessons, and help students develop adaptive and behavioral skills.

Under direct supervision, you will assist in evaluating progress, maintaining student records, and ensuring a safe, positive learning environment for all students, while meeting district qualifications and background clearance requirements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
• 60 college credit hours or AA degree or proof of successfully passing a State-approved para-professional assessment.
• Social Security Card.
• Proof of immunity to Measles and German Measles.
• Valid picture ID.
• Fingerprint IVP/background clearance (upon employment).

Responsibilities

• Adapts classroom work under the direction of the teacher for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives.
• Administers evaluations for the purpose of assisting the teacher in evaluating students’ progress and/or recognizing individual needs.
• Administers first-aid and assistance to medically fragile and/or injured students under supervision.
• Assists teachers and parents for implementing lesson plans and developing students’ adaptive and behavioral skills.
• Confers with teachers, parents and/or appropriate personnel for evaluating progress and implementing objectives.
• Implements behavioral plans for meeting students’ social and daily living skills as needed.
• Implements instructional programs and lesson plans under teacher supervision to assist learning.
• Maintains students’ files/records for safe and appropriate learning environment.
• Monitors students and activities to maintain safety and learning environment.
• Performs clerical functions supporting the teacher and student materials.
• Responds to emergencies to resolve safety concerns.
• Participates in meetings to improve skills and knowledge.

Education

High school diploma, GED or equivalent
