Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Three years of general office/administrative experience, including keyboarding, maintaining records, and greeting the public or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise independent judgment.
  • Experience with multiple technology platforms to support students (Microsoft Office, scheduling systems, student information systems, virtual meeting platforms, and database software).
  • Experience with ctcLink/PeopleSoft is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a front office specialist for the Student Success Center, greeting students and visitors, answering phones and emails, assisting with virtual and in-person services, scheduling appointments, and connecting students to resources.
  • Provide accurate information regarding college services, enrollment processes, advising, and campus resources; refer students to appropriate departments when needed.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple tasks, under pressure, during peak advising times and within deadlines.
  • Assist with preparing materials, scheduling, and logistical support for Student Success Center activities and advising events.
  • Maintain records, prepare reports, enter data, and support operational processes related to advising and academic standards.
  • Follow FERPA regulations regarding student records.

Job description

Renton Technical College is seeking a Part-Time Student Entry Specialist to support the operations of the Student Success Center! As a member of the Student Success Center team (advising and counseling office), this position has extensive involvement with students, the public, and outside agencies to support the operation of the college. This position is responsible for facilitating a welcoming and positive experience for current and prospective students. Responsibilities include scheduling student advising appointments, students with college navigational questions or concerns, helping maintain smooth functioning of the office, and support of office goals. This position requires exceptional customer service skills both in-person and in virtual environments.

The Student Entry Specialist is represented by the Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE) union. This is a part‑time hourly position reporting to the Director of Entry Services. The pay range for this role is $26.27 - $32.60 annually. Salary placement is based on applicable work experiences. Additional information can be found on our benefits page and in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

This is a one‑year position, and budget will be reviewed annually for possible continuation. The priority consideration date for this position is August 28, 2026.

  • Serve as a front office specialist for the Student Success Center by providing exceptional customer service, greeting students and visitors, answering phones, responding to emails, assisting with virtual and in‑person services, scheduling appointments, and ensuring students are connected to the appropriate resources.
  • Provide accurate information regarding college services, enrollment processes, advising, and campus resources, referring students to appropriate departments when needed.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple tasks, under pressure, during peak advising times and within deadlines.
  • Assist with preparing materials, scheduling, and logistical support for Student Success Center activities and advising events.
  • Assist with maintaining records, preparing reports, entering data, and supporting operational processes related to advising, academic standards, adviser assignments, and other Student Success Center functions.
  • Follow and maintain compliance with FERPA regulations regarding any student educational records.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively, both orally and in writing, with college employees, departments and outside agencies.
  • Perform related duties as required.
  • Experience working with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio‑economic, physical and learning abilities, and commitment to an inclusive and equitable working / learning environment.
  • Demonstrated experience providing exceptional customer service in a fast‑paced environment with frequent interruptions.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Three years of general office / administrative experience, including keyboarding, maintaining records, and greeting the public or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, think critically and exercise independent judgment required.
  • Experience learning and using multiple technology platforms to support students (Microsoft Office, scheduling systems, student information systems, virtual meeting platforms, and database software). Experience with ctcLink/PeopleSoft is preferred.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail required as well as previous experience maintaining accurate records, managing multiple tasks, and planning and organizing work in order to meet changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote universal design and accessibility. Proficiency in (or ability to learn within 6 month of hire) the production of accessible content, whether print or electronic.
  • Ability to represent the college in a positive and professional manner, while using tact, discretion and courtesy.
  • Ability to speak a regionally top spoken language other than English is preferred (Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Somali, and Chinese).

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This is a part‑time position averaging approximately 16 hours per week. Work hours will generally be scheduled during the college's regular business hours and will be tailored to support peak operational needs of the Student Success Center, with some scheduling flexibility. Work is mostly sedentary in nature, performed in an office environment. Frequent use of a computer and exposure to terminal screens is required.
