Notre Dame is seeking a summer intern to perform numerical analysis of underground structures and provide engineering support at Notre Dame. You will develop and assess numerical modeling pre- and post-processing workflows, and create specialized scripts and software utilities using Python, C++, VBA, or other programming languages.

Your Role

Here’s what you will be doing:

• Work 40 hours per week during the summer of 2026.
• Perform numerical analysis of underground structures.
• Provide engineering support and conduct data analysis.
• Develop and assess numerical modeling pre- or post-processing workflows.
• Create specialized scripts and software utilities using Python, C++, VBA, or other programming languages.
• Work under the direct supervision of experienced engineering staff.

About You

The company is looking for candidates who have:

• Enrollment in a bachelor of science or advanced degree program in mechanical, civil, geological, mining engineering, or a related field.
• Strong computer skills with spreadsheets and standard office software.
• Familiarity with CAE software such as finite element analysis, pre- and post-processing for numerical analysis, and 3D CAD software (preferred).
• Excellent interpersonal skills with effective written and oral communication abilities.
• Self-motivation.
• Strong working knowledge of a high-level programming language (preferred).
