Job summary

A firearms manufacturing company in Georgia is looking for an Engineering Student Intern / Co Op to gain hands-on experience across various engineering functions. The role involves assisting in the design, prototyping, and testing of firearms, collaborating on new product development, and ensuring quality standards. As an Engineering Student Intern / Co Op, you will gain hands‑on experience in Research & Development, New Product Development, Automation, Electrical, Design and/or Manufacturing engineering functions. You will be expected to contribute to projects that enhance product performance, support manufacturing efficiency, and ensure quality standards while developing your engineering skills in a real‑world environment.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for demonstrating commitment to and leadership of environmental health and safety principles, policies and procedures.
  • Engineering Disciplines that you may work with: Design, Manufacturing, New Product Development, etc.
  • Aid in the New Product Stage/Gate Process to help ideas and technologies venture into new product.
  • Assist in the design, prototyping, and testing of firearms and related accessories.
  • Develop technical data packages including CAD models, 2D drawings, and specifications for manufacturing and assembly.
  • Maintain and construct work instructions and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Contribute to cost estimates, risk assessments, and design reviews for new products.
  • Create and execute test procedures for new technologies and existing product lines.
  • Provide technical support to sales and marketing on new products.
  • Work with manufacturing to design cost‑effective and efficient solutions.
  • Participate in fixture and gage design for handling, assembly, and inspection of parts.
  • Develop, implement, and validate new gaging systems and fixtures in alignment with equipment performance requirements.
  • Collaborate with team members and company personnel to create and implement operating procedures, and assist in resolving system malfunctions.
  • Participates in the company’s efforts to continuously improve in Safety, 6S, Quality, Delivery and Productivity.
  • Expected to be a contributor to the company standards on high integrity, safety, fair and equitable treatment and a positive work environment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Mechanical, Manufacturing or related Engineering major in‑progress, minimum GPA of 2.75
  • 1 year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in SolidWorks (3D modeling required; exposure to Mastercam or similar software is a plus.)
  • Basic understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Exposure to Finite Element Analysis and interpreting results preferred.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, fixtures and gaging systems desirable.
  • Experience with firearms design and implementation a plus.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills; ability to interact with Executive Leadership, team members, vendors and customers.
  • Self‑motivated, independent worker with the ability to manage tasks under deadlines
  • Firearm experience a plus but not required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift and carry awkward items weighing up to 25-50 pounds.
  • Requires intermittent standing, walking, sitting and bending throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment, to include working in and around machinery, exposure to noise and chemicals, lights/lasers, etc.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protection Equipment as required by your position and/or Company policy.
