Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is seeking an Engineering Assistant who is a Utah State University student in electrical, computer engineering, or computer science. The role supports data pipelines, hardware/software test procedures, and documentation while collaborating with engineers.

The position offers hands-on experience in a supportive team, with training provided and potential summer hours up to 40 per week. DoD clearance eligibility (U.S. citizenship) is required for consideration.

Qualifications

  • Must be a Utah State University student pursuing a degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or computer science.
  • Familiarity with reading electronic schematics, hardware/software test procedures, networking, FPGA programming, and Python/C/C++/JavaScript.

Responsibilities

  • Supports development, monitoring, and troubleshooting of data pipelines and processes.
  • Assists with development of automated hardware and software test procedures.
  • Assists with assembly, test, and validation of electrical hardware.
  • Creates and maintains documentation.
  • Collaborates with hardware and software engineers on ongoing projects.
  • Supports testing and debugging, documenting problems and applying fixes.
  • Proactively learns new tools and technologies to develop skills.

The Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) Systems Division delivers mission‑critical solutions, specializing in cyber operations, information architecture, strategic deterrence, and ISR. Our division’s commitment to innovation and security enables us to provide critical solutions across defense, intelligence, and national security. Key Responsibilities:
  • Supports the development, monitoring, and troubleshooting of data pipelines and processes
  • Assists with development of automated hardware and software test procedures
  • Assists with assembly, test, and validation of electrical hardware
  • Creates and maintains documentation
  • Collaborates with hardware and software engineers on ongoing projects, actively participating in team meetings and contributes to assigned tasks
  • Supports testing, debugging, and issue resolution for hardware and software, documenting problems, and applying fixes
  • Proactively engages in learning new tools, technologies, and concepts to develop technical skills and contribute effectively
Required Qualifications:
  • Must be a Utah State University student pursuing a degree/certification in electrical engineering, computer engineering,computer science, or a related field
  • Candidates should have some familiarity in one or more of the following: reading and understandingelectronic schematics, hardware and software test and troubleshooting procedures, computer networking, working with and programming FPGAs, and programming in Python, C, C++, and/or JavaScript
  • Must be able to work effectively; both independently and as a team member
  • Good communications skills, both written and verbal are essential
  • Must be able to work 15-20 hours per week during semesters and up to 40 hours per week during summers
  • The successful candidate must be able to obtain a DoW security clearance; eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 3 years remaining in school
