Job summary

Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) seeks an Engineering Assistant to support data pipelines, hardware and software test procedures, and assembly/validation of electrical hardware. You will collaborate with hardware and software engineers, contributing in team meetings while expanding hands-on technical skills.

The role is ideal for a motivated student from Utah State University pursuing EE/CE/CS, with exposure to schematics, FPGA, Python, C/C++, and JavaScript. DoW clearance eligibility is required.

Qualifications

  • Utah State University student pursuing EE, CE, CS or related field.
  • Familiar with schematics, testing, networking, FPGA, Python, C, C++, or JavaScript.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Available 15–20 hours/week during semesters; up to 40 hours/week in summer.
  • Eligible for DoD security clearance (U.S. citizenship).

Responsibilities

  • Supports development, monitoring, and troubleshooting of data pipelines and processes.
  • Assists with development of automated hardware and software test procedures.
  • Assists with assembly, test, and validation of electrical hardware.
  • Creates and maintains documentation.
  • Collaborates with hardware and software engineers on ongoing projects and participates in meetings.
  • Supports testing, debugging, and issue resolution for hardware and software, documenting problems and fixes.
  • Learns new tools, technologies, and concepts to grow technical skills.

The Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) Systems Division delivers mission‑critical solutions, specializing in cyber operations, information architecture, strategic deterrence, and ISR. Our division’s commitment to innovation and security enables us to provide critical solutions across defense, intelligence, and national security. Key Responsibilities:
  • Supports the development, monitoring, and troubleshooting of data pipelines and processes
  • Assists with development of automated hardware and software test procedures
  • Assists with assembly, test, and validation of electrical hardware
  • Creates and maintains documentation
  • Collaborates with hardware and software engineers on ongoing projects, actively participating in team meetings and contributes to assigned tasks

  • Proactively engages in learning new tools, technologies, and concepts to develop technical skills and contribute effectively
Required Qualifications:
  • Must be a Utah State University student pursuing a degree/certification in electrical engineering, computer engineering,computer science, or a related field
  • Candidates should have some familiarity in one or more of the following: reading and understandingelectronic schematics, hardware and software test and troubleshooting procedures, computer networking, working with and programming FPGAs, and programming in Python, C, C++, and/or JavaScript
  • Must be able to work effectively; both independently and as a team member
  • Good communications skills, both written and verbal are essential
  • Must be able to work 15-20 hours per week during semesters and up to 40 hours per week during summers
  • The successful candidate must be able to obtain a DoW security clearance; eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 3 years remaining in school
