Job description

The Cottage Collective: Student Engagement Specialist (Paraprofessional)

Terms of Employment: Full time position (depending on start date), 40 hours per week. This position requires evening and weekend hours. Pay per Classified Salary Schedule- Category IV ($16.84-$25.69). The position qualifies for benefits including medical, life, and dental insurance. The District offers two medical plans fully paid by the District, a buy‑up option with majority coverage by the District, full employee premiums for dental and life insurance, and contributions to PERA. Employees also receive paid leave: 5 annual leave days and 6 sick leave days (depending on start date).

Position Purpose

Under the general supervision of the MTSS Coordinator, the Student Engagement Specialist serves as a vital link between the school district, families, and the broader community to support student success. This role fosters effective communication, builds trusting relationships, and encourages meaningful family engagement in the educational process. By connecting families with school and district resources, community services, and support programs, the Specialist helps remove barriers to student learning and promotes a collaborative school environment. The position focuses on strengthening partnerships that enhance student achievement, wellbeing, and overall school improvement.

Essential Job Functions
  • Engagement of truant students and their families to support attendance initiatives.
  • Assist students and parents to receive community resources that help meet school/District program objectives.
  • Assist in ensuring parents and students most in need of service are targeted for services.
  • Management of The Cottage Collective, including sorting, stocking, and rotating seasonal items.
  • Data collection and support with reporting of data for social media and grants.
  • Engagement with community partners to obtain resources for The Cottage Collective.
  • Promotion of The Cottage Collective at community events.
Additional Duties

Assist guidance, pupil services staff, or building administration as needed. Perform any other related duties as assigned.

Confidential Information
  • Staff members shall not access, receive, transmit or retransmit material regarding students, parents/guardians or district employees that is protected by confidentiality laws.
  • If material is not legally protected but is of a confidential or sensitive nature, great care shall be taken to ensure that only those with a “need to know” are allowed access to the material.
  • Staff members shall handle all employee, student, and district records in accordance with applicable district policies.
  • Staff members who intentionally disclose student records, other confidential student information and/or district information may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination.

Use standard office equipment, such as personal computers and copiers.

Travel Requirements

Travel between schools, or between schools and central offices, may be required for certain positions.

Qualifications Profile

Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
