This is a hybrid position that is based in our Chicago/O’Hare Area office. Applicants must live within a 100-mile radius of the home office to be considered for the position.

Base pay range

$50,000.00/yr - $65,000.00/yr

Your Purpose:

We are seeking an organized, energetic, and creative professional with strong communication skills to join the SOA’s Student and Candidate Engagement team. Reporting to the Manager, Student and Candidate Engagement, this specialist will help grow awareness and interest in the actuarial profession by engaging high school students, educators, parents, and other influencers, while building meaningful partnerships.

What You’ll Do:
  • Develop innovative programs and connections with high school students to spark interest in the actuarial profession, while also engaging key influencers such as social media figures, counselors, teachers, and parents.
  • Acts as staff liaison for student programs tied to BeAnActuary.org and strengthens relationships with student clubs and organizations.
  • Monitors program performance and tracks outreach data to evaluate program quality and effectiveness.
  • Represents SOA at audience-specific conferences (in-person and virtual) and collaborates with the supervisor to implement strategies that attract prospects to programs and/or purchase products and services.
  • Monitors tactics to measure success in supporting the organization’s strategy- including social media, video and other communication strategies.
  • Actively researches websites for prospect opportunities. Responds to inquiries and performs active follow up to ensure conversion of the prospect into a candidate.
  • Builds pipeline of prospective influencers and contacts through identification, recruitment, engagement and training contacts.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned are to support strategic functions and SOA initiatives.
What You’ll Need:
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in customer/member-facing role, communications, marketing and/or business development.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and experience with using various technology platforms and mentoring program platforms.
  • Ability to review for errors including grammar, punctuation, spelling, readability, and SOA branding objectives.
  • Strong organizational and project management experience.
  • Excellent project management skills, demonstrating the ability to coordinate and/or lead multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work well with constituents/customers and demonstrate a high level of diplomacy.
  • Outstanding communications and interpersonal skills to effectively establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to travel to events and conferences around the United States and Canada up to 15% of the time, including overnight travel.
