Responsibilities

  • Office support: answers phones, emails, and greets NASWSI visitors; schedules meetings, and document management.
  • Student support: assists with the Native American Social Work Student club meetings and events; provides student support and resources, relevant to the Institute.
  • Meetings/event support: collects meeting/event documentation, note-taking, data entry, filing, and managing records; assists with departmental projects, meetings, and events.
  • Research assistance: collect literature from various sources, such as online databases and journals; assisting with data collection and documenting meeting notes.
  • Miscellaneous: Assists with other departmental projects; maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  • Communication: active communication is expected; aid is expected to be present during scheduled work times.

Job Summary/Description/Physical Demands

The NASWSI student aide supports the daily operations and long-term goals of the Institute. The student aide will report to the Director of NASWSI. Responsibilities include but are not limited to assisting Director with various administrative tasks, organizing recruitment events, trainings and meetings, attending professional trainings/conferences. Opportunities for leadership, reflection, and professional development will be built into the job experience. Work may be performed remotely or in an office setting (at the Rio Rancho/Albuquerque Center) and in tribal/non-tribal agencies and communities throughout New Mexico.

Responsibilities
  • Office support: answers phones, emails, and greets NASWSI visitors; schedules meetings, and document management.
  • Student support: assists with the Native American Social Work Student club meetings and events; provides student support and resources, relevant to the Institute.
  • Meetings/event support: collects meeting/event documentation, note-taking, data entry, filing, and managing records; and assists with departmental projects, meetings, and events; Handles event logistics such as room reservations, catering orders, and directions. Work in conjunction with Administrative Assistant and NASWSI Director.
  • Research assistance: collect literature from various sources, such as online databases and journals; assisting with general research efforts such as data collection and documenting meeting notes.
  • Miscellaneous: Assists with other departmental projects, as assigned. Maintain a clean and organized workspace;
  • Communication – active communication is expected; aid is expected to be present and accessible to NASWSI during scheduled work times.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be registered for Fall 2026 courses in good standing. Minimum enrollment of 6 credit hours.
  • Education requirement: High School Diploma/GED.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of the history and contemporary life ways of the Apache, Pueblo, and Dine people in New Mexico;
  • Some retail, customer service, or support service experience.
Preferred Skills
  • Reliable and dependable;
  • Intermediate computer skills (proficiency preferred in Zoom, Canva and Microsoft software including Microsoft Teams, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Excel);
  • Able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Professionalism in all settings.
