PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The student intern supports FMCNA's mission, vision, core values, and customer service philosophy. Adheres to the FMCNA Compliance Program, including following all regulatory and FMS policy requirements.

The student intern functions as part of the dialysis health care team in providing medical nutrition therapy for patients under the direct supervision of a registered dietitian, in accordance with FMCNA policies, procedures, training, and regulations set forth by the corporation, state, and federal agencies.

DUTIES / ACTIVITIES:

Dietetic Intern: An individual enrolled in an ACEND-accredited Dietetic Internship or university-based Coordinated Program in Dietetics.

Under supervision of the Renal Dietitian, the intern may:

• Review renal nutrition basics and other orientation components
• Understand the workflow and role of the RD
• Conduct patient nutrition interviews
• Calculate diet prescriptions
• Provide nutrition counseling on renal diets
• Assist in data collection for assessments
• Help develop and implement nutrition care plans
• Review nutrition data with patients/caregivers
• Write nutrition progress notes
• Contribute to nutrition projects
• Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

The role involves desk work, computer use, and interaction with patients and staff. Travel between facilities and to meetings may be required. The environment is typical of a healthcare facility, with potential exposure to infectious materials.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's or Master's in Nutrition/Dietetics or current enrollment in an accredited Coordinated Program.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

Outstanding customer service, desire to deliver superior patient care, and alignment with Fresenius' values are preferred.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Interns cannot work under or care for family members at the facility.

SUPERVISION:

Assignments are closely monitored by the Clinical Manager and supervised by a Registered Dietitian based on the education plan.
