This is a part-time restricted classified position . The position will work approximately 20 hours per week . The position will be on-site three days a week with flexible hours.
General Description

Northern Virginia Community College is developing a new curriculum for a Student Development (SDV) course aimed at high school dual enrollment students. This position is responsible to revise and expand a 1-credit SDV course currently required for all Virginia community college students. This new course will be offered to high school students. The Curriculum Developer will support a grant-funded project aimed at creating an innovative program for high school students in the region. This program will expand access to dual enrollment courses, providing students with career development skills and quality work-based learning opportunities. Regional employer partners will be recruited to provide program specific work-based learning opportunities.
Duties And Tasks
- Attend and participate in all project team meetings, in-person and virtual.
- Create age-appropriate and subject-specific course materials to enhance access to education and workforce opportunities. These materials will focus on academic and career awareness preparation while also granting college credit.
- Oversee the development of the scope and sequence of the required curriculum.
- Develop and evaluate new curriculum to include lesson plans, worksheets, support materials, and assessments that incorporate work-based learning projects.
- Ensure the new curriculum aligns with the latest educational standards and best practices as well as aligning with existing curricula.
- Provide on-going review and revision in response to feedback from secondary and higher education constituents and ensure compliance with requirements of oversight entities, such as the Virginia Community College System.
- Provide professional development and training for teachers and staff who will implement the new curriculum.
- This position is a part-time restricted and is funded with non-continuous or non-recurring funding and is subject to continuation based on fiscal year funds and the needs of the College.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to create curriculum that can be delivered through a Learning Management System, such as Canvas
- Knowledge of current theory and practices regarding curriculum research
- Ability to provide sample lesson plans as implemented in the classroom
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanor respectful of diversity and multiculturalism
- Strong writing skills.
Required Qualifications
- Experience in curriculum writing for secondary or college level programs or training.
- Experience designing and developing curriculum plans or programs focused on student career and professional development
- Experience teaching or advising students at the high school or college level
Additional Considerations
- Experience providing career and professional development advising or coaching
- Experience teaching a student development or college orientation course
