Job summary

WesTech Engineering, LLC. in Ames, IA seeks a Student Drafter to join our engineering team and help create detailed CAD drawings and models that meet project specs and industry standards.

You will work with engineers and senior designers, develop 2D/3D drawings, and ensure designs comply with company codes and safety regulations. This role offers hybrid schedules, hands-on mentorship, and opportunities to grow skills in water-treatment equipment design.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled and active in Sophomore or Junior year of CAD related 4-year degree.
• 0-1 years of experience in CAD design (internships or co-op experience considered).
• Knowledge of AutoCAD or SolidWorks and drafting terminology.
• Knowledge of structural, mechanical, and engineering drawing conventions.
• Proficient in trigonometry, geometry, and CAD-related math.

Responsibilities

• Develop and prepare detailed CAD drawings from sketches, specifications, and verbal instructions.
• Create 2D and 3D models using CAD software.
• Assist in the design and layout of water treatment equipment and systems.
• Collaborate with engineers and project managers to ensure designs meet requirements.
• Revise drawings based on mentor/engineer/client feedback.
• Maintain organized records of drawings and project documentation.
• Participate in project meetings and contribute design solutions.
• Ensure designs comply with company standards, codes, and safety regs.
• Monitor progress and report potential schedule delays.
