Joliet Junior College seeks a part-time Student Employee, Biology/Chemistry Lab Assistant to support biology and chemistry labs. Responsibilities include cleaning, prepping materials, and maintaining equipment as well as handling media and aseptic tasks under supervision.

The role requires enrollment in 6+ credits, a 2.0+ GPA, and coursework in biology/chemistry, with a 15.00 USD hourly rate and flexible part-time hours 8am–4pm, Mon–Fri.

Qualifications

• Enrolled as student for 6+ credit hours this fall/spring.
• Maintains a minimum 2.0 GPA.
• Has completed biology and/or chemistry coursework.
• Able to communicate effectively and work with others.
• Demonstrates cultural competence and emotional intelligence.

Responsibilities

• Follow Safety Procedures & Policies per the JJC Chemical Hygiene Plan.
• Prepare laboratory materials for Biology and Chemistry courses.
• Prepare media for Microbiology labs and operate the autoclave.
• Maintain aquariums, plants, lab animals and other living specimens.
• Maintain cadavers and laboratory equipment and supplies.
• Clean, store and inventory laboratory materials.
• Keep classrooms and labs clean and organized.
• Prepare chemical solutions and observe hazardous material handling.
• Work 10–20 hours per week Mon–Fri 8am–4pm; other duties as assigned.
• Assist with general lab duties as needed.
