Job summary

UPMC is seeking motivated Student Behavioral Associates for the Integrated Health & Aging Program (IHAP) at Western Psychiatric Hospital in Pittsburgh. The casual, weekend-focused role provides hands-on patient care under a Registered Nurse, with opportunities for practical experience aligned to your healthcare studies.

Applicants must be enrolled full-time in a healthcare-related program (nursing preferred) and be available for weekends/holidays, with overtime as needed.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a healthcare-related degree program (bachelor’s, diploma, or equivalent).
• Must be available for weekend shifts and holidays.
• CPR/First Aid required; CCM training within 30 days of hire and annually thereafter.
• Clearances (Act 33/34/73) required or Renewals as applicable.

Responsibilities

• Assist with patient care and daily activities under RN supervision.
• Document in medical records and communicate observations to the treatment team.
• Maintain a safe environment and manage crises with a calm approach.
• Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and help maintain a safe, clean milieu.
• Stay current on technology, best practices, and hospital policies.

Position Specifics:

• Work Schedule: Casual position, primarily weekend shifts: day/evening/night weekends
• Will include rotating holidays.
• We are unable to work around extended holiday and summer breaks.
• Location: UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital (3811 O’Hara Street, 15213)
• Pay Rate: $19.00 (Set Rate)

Responsibilities:

• Patient Care & Assistance:

• Professional Development:
  • Stay up to date on technology, best practices and hospital compliance policies.
  • Current full-time enrollment in an accredited school in healthcare related baccalaureate (Nursing and Psychology preferred). Other majors will be considered.
  • OR-
  • Current full-time enrollment in a diploma, Associate, or Bachelor level nursing program.
  • Must be available and agree to work weekends and holidays.
  • Must be able to work overtime as required.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

CCM training is required within 30 days of hire and annually thereafter

• Act 33 Child Clearance with Renewal
• Act 34 Criminal Clearance with Renewal
• Act 73 FBI Clearance
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
• Comprehensive Crisis Management
