Job summary

Sylvania is seeking a dedicated Transportation Department Student Management Bus Monitor to support bus drivers and promote a safe, orderly environment for students on general education routes.

You will supervise students during loading, transportation, and unloading, reinforce district expectations, and assist with emergency preparedness while demonstrating calm communication, de-escalation skills, and proactive behavior management.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to communicate effectively, listen actively, and be patient.

• Ability to work with students productively and with colleagues professionally.

Responsibilities

• Assist drivers in maintaining a safe, orderly and respectful bus environment.
• Monitor student interactions and mitigate conflicts before escalation.
• Promote positive student behavior through encouragement and relationship building; de-escalation where needed.
• Redirect inappropriate behaviors using district-approved techniques.
• Mediate disagreements between students.
• Assist in developing seating arrangements to improve student behavior.
• Model respectful communication and professionalism in all interactions.
• Communicate safety concerns promptly and professionally.
• Support emergency evacuations and bus drills.
