Duties Description

• Under the supervision of a Service and Repair Mechanic (Motor Equipment), Student Interns will observe the Playground of vehicle diagnostics; mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic repairs on vehicles and equipment.
• Student Interns will have the opportunity to assist with such routine tasks as brake jobs, oil changes, and other minor maintenance work.
• Student interns will also be instructed on opening work orders, documenting work performed; or be assigned to a parts room where they will research and order parts and go out on parts deliveries.
• There may be other job shadowing opportunities with appropriate Fleet Management staff.
• Responsibilities may include contributing within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be currently enrolled in an automotive or diesel repair technology program.

Additional Comments

• Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

The salary range listed reflects the full range for this graded position. For new State employees appointed into graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
