Position Description

Job Title: Dissertation Reviewer

Department: Student Success, Writing Studio

Reports To: Dr. Robert Randolph, Writing Studio Director

Location: All PAU Campuses and Virtually

Job Summary

The Dissertation Reviewer will review PAU PhD and PsyD dissertations for adherence to the PAU template and APA style, focusing on various manuscript components. The candidate should be organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Format Reviewing: Conduct timely reviews of dissertations to ensure compliance with PAU and APA standards.
  • Customer Service and Outreach: Assist students in preparing and submitting dissertations.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of student progress.
  • Light Copyediting: Apply APA style rules for grammar and mechanics.
  • Manuscript Assigning: Manage manuscript assignments as needed.

Dissertation reviewing does NOT include one-on-one student sessions, general writing assistance, or comprehensive APA training.

Essential Qualifications

  • Must be an enrolled doctoral student, second year or above, in good standing (preferably 3.0 GPA) at PAU.
  • Available during winter, spring, and summer dissertation review seasons.
  • Proficiency in academic writing, reviewing, and editing.
  • Familiarity with APA 7th edition style.
  • Ability to work independently and establish rapport with diverse students.
  • Interest in supporting student academic success; prior tutoring or mentoring experience is a plus.
