Job Summary

The University Recreation Group Fitness Instructor is responsible for leading safe, effective, and enjoyable fitness classes for the students, faculty, and staff of University of West Georgia. This role involves planning and executing fitness routines, demonstrating proper exercise techniques, and motivating each client to achieve their fitness goals. The instructor will also be responsible for ensuring the safety and cleanliness of the fitness studios.

Class Instruction:

  • Plan and lead group fitness classes, including but not limited to cycle, yoga, strength training, and dance.
  • Develop and implement routines that cater to a variety of fitness levels and abilities.
  • Provide modifications and variations to accommodate different fitness levels and abilities.


Demonstration and Technique:

  • Demonstrate exercises and movements correctly and safely.
  • Offer clear and concise instructions and cues during classes.
  • Monitor participants to ensure proper form and technique, providing feedback and corrections as needed.


Motivation and Support:

  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants.
  • Encourage and motivate participants to reach their fitness goals.
  • Create a positive and energetic atmosphere during classes.

Safety and Cleanliness:

  • Conduct safety checks of equipment and facilities before and after classes.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or facility issues to the Fitness Program Coordinator.
  • Ensure that the fitness area is clean and organized before and after classes.

Professional Development:

  • Stay updated on current fitness trends and best practices.
  • Attend training sessions and workshops as required.
  • Maintain any required certifications and qualifications.

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain accurate attendance records for classes.
  • Assist with promotional activities and events related to the fitness program.
  • Provide feedback and suggestions for improving the fitness program.
Required Qualifications
  • Must be a currently enrolled University of West Georgia student enrolled for six credit hours and maintaining at least a 2.0 cumulative grade-point average
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in leading group fitness classes is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Certification in Group Fitness Instruction (e.g., ACE) is required or must be obtained within 3 months of hiring.
  • CPR/AED certification is required or must be obtained within 3 months of hiring.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to demonstrate exercises and movements as required for the class.
  • Must be able to lift and move fitness equipment as needed.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
