Under close supervision of the Section Manager, a Student Assistant duties will include working with Air Resources Engineers in On-Road Light-Duty Certification Section (ONRLDCS) for gathering, tabulating, and analyzing vehicle and certification emissions data submitted by manufacturers for demonstrating compliance with applicable exhaust, evaporative, and other emissions-related standards; updating and maintaining complex certification databases; remediating signed Executive Orders and letters to be compliant with ADA requirements for web-posting; assisting in the preparation of reports and correspondences; and performing any other duties that may be necessary to meet the needs of the section. The candidate will work part-time, participating in various phases of the certification process.

This position may be eligible for hybrid in-office work and in-state telework. The amount of telework is at the agency's discretion and is based on the California Air Resources Boards' (CARB) current telework policy. While the CARB may support telework, some in-person attendance is also required.
The positions at the CARB may be eligible for telework with in-person attendance based on the operational needs of the positionunder Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria outlined in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of hybrid telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position’s designated headquarters location at their own expense, as indicated on their duty statement.

A strong candidate will possess education and experience working with basic engineering principles. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, including other data analysis programs is required. A successful candidate must be able to excel working in a close-knit team atmosphere. An ability and strong desire to learn, as well as strong verbal and written communication skills are important.
