Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Monitor student computer access per VDOC and CCV policies.
  • Maintain accurate inventory and tracking of computer usage and equipment.
  • Provide basic troubleshooting for login, printing, devices.
  • Print, organize, and distribute course materials to students.
  • Assist with classroom and lab setup as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with security, confidentiality and facility rules.
  • Communicate issues to CPSEI staff and facility personnel.
  • Perform related duties to support program operations.

Job description

Position SummaryThe Corrections Education Student Assistant supports the delivery of postsecondary educational programming within the Vermont Department of Corrections (VDOC) facilities. This role provides on-site technical assistance to incarcerated students, ensures appropriate and secure use of technology, and supports faculty and program staff in maintaining an effective and professional learning environment within a correctional setting.This position will work between 10-24 hours a week during the semester and the compensation is between $16.50 an $20 an hour, based on education level. This position is not eligible for benefits.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesMonitor and observe student access to computers in accordance with VDOC and CCV policies and proceduresMaintain accurate inventory and tracking of computer usage, including the check-in and check-out of SecureBooks and related equipmentProvide basic computer troubleshooting support (e.g., login issues, printing, device functionality)Print, organize, and distribute course materials and instructional resources to studentsSupport faculty and program staff with classroom and lab setup as neededEnsure compliance with all facility rules, security protocols, and confidentiality requirementsMaintain professionalism and appropriate boundaries with students at all timesCommunicate effectively with CPSEI staff and facility personnel regarding issues, concerns, or equipment needsPerform other related duties as assigned to support program operationsRequired QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or college coursework preferredBasic computer literacy, including familiarity with word processing, printing, and general troubleshootingStrong organizational skills and attention to detailAbility to maintain professionalism and composure in a correctional environmentEffective communication skills and ability to follow written and verbal instructionsAbility to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and correctional personnelPreferred QualificationsExperience working in education, student support, or corrections-related environmentsExperience supporting adult learnersFamiliarity with learning management systems or educational technologyConditions of EmploymentEmployment is contingent upon successfully clearing all Vermont Department of Corrections (VDOC) background and security checks.Failure to obtain or maintain VDOC clearance will result in inability to perform essential job functions and may lead to termination of employment.Must comply with all VDOC facility rules, policies, and security requirements at allWork Environment and Physical RequirementsWork is performed within a correctional facility settingMay require standing, walking, and monitoring student activity for extended periodsMust be able to lift and carry materials and equipment (up to approximately 25 pounds)Reporting RelationshipReports to the Associate Director of Corrections Education or designee.Additional Information: All new full-time employees and certain part-time employees will be subject to a fingerprint-supported criminal background check. Any offer of employment is contingent upon the satisfactory results of this check.Scheduled Hours Weekly:0Budgeted Wage for this Position:Pay rate is between $16.50 an $20 an hour, based on education level.
