Job summary

The Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) in California is hiring two undergraduate student assistants to support hazardous waste management and regulatory activities. The role is part-time, non-benefited, and off-campus, with a focus on administrative tasks and data processing.

Candidates must be enrolled in at least six-semester or nine-quarter units and have a high school diploma. Workdays are Monday–Friday, 8 AM–5 PM, with up to 20 hours weekly during the academic year.

Qualifications

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Experience in data entry and maintaining records.
• Experience responding to inquiries via phone and email in a professional setting.
• Experience performing administrative or program support tasks, including tracking and processing.
• Ability to review information, identify issues, and follow established guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Answer phone calls and respond to emails from the public.
• Process ID number applications.
• Assist in business analysis and documentation.
• Assist in project management activities.
• Provide research and analysis.
