  • Assist in planning, development, coordination and assessment of ConnectFest and Stress-Less Week.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

STUDENT AFFAIRS SPECIALIST II

General Responsibilities

The Coordinator of Student Organizations is a full-time professional staff member reporting to the Assistant Director of Student Programs. S/he will assist the Assistant Director with the implementation and assessment of student programs and resources within the Office of Student Family Engagement.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
  • 1. Provide primary support for UAB's student organization community, serving both undergraduate and graduate students.
  • 2. Provide day-to-day oversight of the University's online involvement platform, Engage.
  • 3. Directly responsible for all student organization registration and re-registration process, review of all student organization event submissions, and student organization support and training.
  • 4. Directly advise Freshman Forum, a first-year student organization within the Undergraduate Student Government Association.
  • 5. Directly advise the UAB Pathfinders (involvement mentors) including their monthly Involvement Fair Programming.
  • 6. Assist in the planning, development, coordination and assessment of the following programs including, but not limited to ConnectFest and Stress-Less Week.
  • 7. Performs other duties as assigned.
Salary Pay Range

$35,570 – $41,000

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Social Sciences or a related field and two (2) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Preferred

Master's degree with a concentration in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Leadership or a related field.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
  • 1-2 years in a university setting (time spent as a graduate assistant will count towards this requirement).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of advising and student organization management.
  • Exemplary organizational skills with a strong emphasis on details.
  • Experience in planning programs and events.
  • Ability to present workshops and training sessions that address harm reduction, membership recruitment, organization management, and event planning.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Evening and weekend work may be required throughout the year.
  • Strong computer skills using Windows, Microsoft Word and Excel and the Engage platform.
