Job description

Job Title: Student Advisor

Starting Date: Immediately

Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Pay Group: A45 Salary Plan

Position Type: Full-Time

Salary: $81,132 per year

Primary Purpose

Placement and testing of students in the educational environment. Supports the campus by providing assistance and coaching to teachers and staff for instructional improvement, classroom discipline, and overall campus improvement.

Qualifications
  • Education: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university recognized by the CHEA or USDE.
  • Certification: Standard School Counselor certificate issued by SBEC, or SBEC Mid‑Management/Administrator/Principal Certificate, or another appropriate administrative certificate.
  • Personal technology required for remote job duties and responsibilities.
Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of school district organization, operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to organize and maintain accurate records.
  • Professional role model demonstrated effectiveness.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Identify, assess, and enroll students in programming most conducive to their educational needs.
  • Maintain a suitable number of students per class by placing them in appropriate programs.
  • Support district‑wide goals for school and organizational climate and comply with district policies in student placement.
  • Provide teachers and students with resources and assessments for college and career planning, development, and readiness.
  • Advise students regarding educational decisions and disseminate program information.
  • Maintain status as GED examiner and coordinate the unit testing program, including GED, EA, and vocational testing.
  • Develop working relationships with teachers and assist them in addressing student misconduct.
  • Assist the principal with campus leadership activities such as staff development, representing the campus at TDCJ and WSD meetings, monitoring accountability, and developing and monitoring the Campus Improvement Plan.
  • Serve as representative of administration for Admission, Review, and Dismissal committees and other committees that determine student placement.
  • Collaborate with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) administration and staff.
  • Attend and participate in staff development provided by the district and other agencies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Policy, Reports, and Law
  • Maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
  • Perform duties professionally, with punctual attendance at the assigned work location.
  • Follow Windham School District policies and procedures in assigned duties.
  • Execute duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined by 19 TAC Chapter 247 and the Texas Educators Code of Ethics.
Supervisory Responsibilities

May supervise activities of the Testing Specialist, Testing Clerk, and Intake (Admin) Clerk at the discretion of the principal.

Working Conditions

Mental Demands: Ability to communicate, instruct, reason, compile data, interpret policy, concentrate, memorize, organize, analyze, maintain emotional control, maintain confidentiality, and work with frequent interruptions.

Physical Demands: Perform full duties, lift and carry less than 31 pounds, walk, sit, stand, climb stairs and ramps, kneel, stoop, reach, hear with aid, have visual acuity, speak, travel by car, van, or airplane, drive a car/van, distinguish colors, and work occasional prolonged and irregular hours. Work both inside and outside, handling noise, radiant/electrical energy, machines with moving parts, and exposure to microwaves, hot and cold temperatures, dust, and cleaning chemicals.
