Job summary

Benedict College in Columbia, SC seeks a Student Activities Coordinator to oversee the daily operations and programming of Student Activities. Job Location: BENEDICT COLLEGE - COLUMBIA, SC 29204

The Student Activities Coordinator supports the daily operations and programming of Student Activities. Responsibilities include planning and coordinating student programs and events, conducting research, assisting with reports, monitoring budgets, and providing administrative support. This position reports to the Vice President for Student Affairs or designee and works closely with students, staff, and the campus community. The Coordinator is expected to understand and communicate College policies, procedures, and expectations while maintaining positive relationships with students, employees, and community partners.

Primary office hours

Primary office hours are 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.; however, the schedule will vary based on programming needs and may include morning hours, evenings, and weekends.

Qualifications
Principal Accountability
  • Lead the development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the day-to-day operations of the Student Activities Program services and procedures.
  • Coordinate, direct, and act as the advisor to the Student Government Association, Royal Court, and other organizations as assigned.
  • Provide support to students, faculty, staff, and the community in planning and coordinating various student activities and functions. Communicate with internal campus organizations and services regarding assistance with meetings, programs, or events.
  • Attend and supervise student sponsored activities.
  • Attend and lead sponsored workshops, seminars and other events as assigned.
  • Provide logistical support for all campus activities as needed.
  • Review and approve club activity requests and contracts.
  • Develop, prepare, and edit a variety of documents, forms and operational procedures for the Student Activities Office, which may also include, but is not limited to; statistical reports, brochures, pamphlets, flyers, newsletters, agendas, manuals, event programs, invitations, and posters.
  • Coordinate and administer, a calendar of co-curricular events with student leaders that provides a welcoming campus environment and supports student recruitment, retention, and the successful achievement of academic and career goals.
  • Assist in planning, developing, promoting, and evaluating programs and services.
  • Compile and analyze data related to student participation and program evaluation.
  • Administer and carry out local, state, and federal laws, rules, regulations and procedures, and policies pertaining to student activities.
  • Recommend student activities policies and procedures to the Dean of Students and implement as directed.
  • Maintain appropriate contact with existing organization advisors and offer orientation meetings for new club members and advisors.
  • Update and maintain student advisor handbook as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President or Designee.
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution. One year of leadership experience with student activities, student engagement or student services staff within higher education.
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Efficient communication via multiple platforms; email, phone, messaging services, etc.
  • Basic computing and application skills; Microsoft office applications, typing, and navigating multiple systems.
  • Basic writing skills; accurate grammatical writing, formatting, and basic English language arts writing
  • Efficient interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage simultaneous assignments, tasks, and duties at once.
  • Able to sit, stand, bend, kneel, walk, stoop, crouch, reach, twist, push, and pull for an extended time.
  • Able to lift 50 pounds.
Minimum Training and Experience
  • 2 years of experience with student programming or equivalent; event planning, etc.
  • Prior experience in student affairs, student services, and/or student activities, in a college setting
