School Bus Charter Driver

Job description

Suffolk Transportation Service, Inc., has School Bus Charter Driver positions available for applicants who possess a clean, Commercial Driver’s License, class B with S [School] and P [Passenger] endorsements. A Charter Driver is responsible for transporting authorized passengers to and from field trips, sporting events, and more in a safe and timely manner with directions provided. Shifts operate on weekdays; weekends are not required.

Qualifications

1. This position requires proper CDL (CDL Class B with P and S endorsements).
2. State school bus certifications including adhering to state and federal guidelines regarding criminal, medical, drug test, and driving records.
3. Willing to drive to a variety of locations.
4. Need to be flexible with last-minute changes.
5. Strong interpersonal & communication skills.
6. Excellent customer service skills.
7. Ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

1. Operating a school bus to safely transport passengers while providing excellent customer service are the most important tasks of the charter driver.
2. Assess traffic and road conditions, monitor passenger behavior, and other factors as necessary.
3. Follow all state and federal traffic laws while operating the school bus.
4. Interact with teachers, coaches, students, and co-workers in a friendly and professional manner.
5. Assist passengers onto and off the vehicle when necessary.
6. Perform pre and post trip vehicle inspections and safety checks as required by company standards and state guidelines.
