Job summary

West Star Aviation is seeking a Structures Technician to perform sheet metal repairs on turbine aircraft structures, read blueprints, and work from drawings. You will report to the MRO Services Manager and collaborate with multiple departments to complete repairs with high quality and safety.

The role requires basic to advanced knowledge of aerospace structures, and a commitment to mutual respect and professional conduct in a hangar environment.

  • Experience with sheet metal repair in aviation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic sheet metal operations on airframe components.
  • Repair aircraft parts and components per procedures and drawings.
  • Maintain shop facilities, equipment, and tooling as required.
  • Enter maintenance data accurately and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Communicate clearly in English with team, customers, and vendors.
  • Follow safety rules and ensure quality during repairs.

Responsibilities

As a Structures Technician, each day will bring new experiences and opportunities for growth. You will need to have a basic to advanced knowledge of turbine aircraft structures, reading blueprints, working from drawings, fastening systems, procedures, and techniques. The Structures Technician will report to the MRO Services Manager and will be responsible for completing repairs on aircraft parts and components. This position requires the Technician to display a professional demeanor and create a work environment that fosters mutual respect between co-workers, customers, and vendors.

This challenging position requires the Technician to be a team player, working across various departments, while accomplishing tasks with minimal supervision and a strong sense of focus on details, quality, and safety.

You will be ESSENTIAL to many FUNCTIONS, including:

  • Perform basic sheet metal operations such as drilling, riveting, and cutting on airframe and associated components.
  • Application and removal of sealant, sound deadening, and finish materials.
  • Maintenance, cleaning, and repair of shop facilities, equipment, and tooling when required.
  • Basic computer skills to be able to navigate electronic training, manuals, and maintenance databases.
  • Comply with current Federal Aviation Regulations, as well as Repair Station and Quality Control Manual Policies and Procedures.
  • Ensure that all necessary maintenance entries on maintenance forms and work orders used by the Repair Station are properly executed.
  • Ensure work area cleanliness and good housekeeping to promote safe operation.
  • When work away from the Repair Station is required, ensure that all processes and procedures are followed in accordance with this Repair Station Manual.
  • Ensure that proper tooling and equipment is utilized, calibrated, and in good working order for the maintenance task to be accomplished.
  • Ensure that the repair and overhaul of all articles and components is accomplished within the authority of the Repair Station and that the work is inspected by the inspection department.
  • Ensure the proper handling and tagging of all parts while in the repair process and through work completion.
  • Ensure incoming parts, supplies, and articles receive an incoming inspection (Receiving Inspection) to determine airworthiness prior to use for a repair or modification.
  • Ensure no defective, non-conformed, or un-airworthy parts are installed in any component or assembly.
  • Effectively and clearly communicate (i.e., speak, write, read) in English.
  • Any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management.
Requirements/Qualifications

Your Education:
A high school diploma or equivalent, and an Airframe and Powerplant License is preferred. A valid driver’s license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal, but not mandatory.

Your Experience:
Prior aircraft sheet metal repair experience is highly recommended.

Your Initiative:
We’re looking for team players who are self-motivated and able to perform in a fast-paced environment where working under specific deadlines and time constraints will be common.

Your Sense of Responsibility:

  • Attend work every day as scheduled, to include overtime and weekend assignments.
  • Notify supervisor in advance of shift starting if unable to work.
  • Must have reliable transportation to get to work each and every day.
  • Perform all work in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration guidelines.
  • Follow all company and safety rules during performance of duties.
  • Maintain customer-oriented work habits.

Physical Requirements:

  • Lifts 70 lbs.
  • Routine walking, bending, and squatting or sitting.
  • Routine or repetitive physical motion with arms and hands.
  • Climb ladders and stairs, work in small, restricted areas.
  • Standing for long periods of time.

Mental Requirements:

  • Understanding and implementation of regulations and guidelines.
  • Troubleshoot or evaluate system operation.
  • Work with others in a professional manner.

Supervision:

  • Work under supervision of assigned Team Leader.
  • May be directed to supervise other technicians in some capacity.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a hangar environment subject to extreme temperature variations from very cold to very hot.

Equipment Used:

  • Personal hand tools supplied by the mechanic.
  • Pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical equipment.
  • Jacks, stands, lifts and other support devices.
  • Tugs, power carts and other engine powered equipment.
