Job summary

WSP USA in Irvine, CA is seeking a Full Time Structures Representative to lead construction engineering and inspection on complex projects. The role may also be based in San Bernardino, with work spanning multiple disciplines in the Inland Empire.

You will review plans and calculations, supervise field staff, and coordinate with contractors, utilities, and owners. A BSCE, California PE license, 12+ years of experience (5 as Structures Representative), railroad exposure, and a strong safety

Qualifications

  • Current California PE license.
  • 12+ years of experience, 5+ years as Structures Representative.
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and materials.
  • Valid CA driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Review plans and calculations for falsework, shoring, staging, bridge removal and other submissions for City, County, Caltrans and State projects.
  • Respond to and resolve field construction issues.
  • Conduct meetings between contractor, owner, utilities and project parties.
  • Inspect, document, and coordinate field tests of construction materials.
  • Analyze construction costs of changed conditions and draft change orders.
  • Prepare constructability reviews and reports.
  • Lead field engineering, contract administration, inspection, testing, surveying, and quality control on large or multiple projects.
  • Supervise field inspection and field office staff; represent projects at meetings.

This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full Time Structures Representative for our Irvine, California office. This position could also be based out of our San Bernardino office. Be involved in projects with our PMCM Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. The position can be located within San Bernardino County and the Inland Empire area.

The Structures Representative provides technical leadership for complex construction management projects or programs, serving as a Structures Representative supervising construction engineering and inspection activities. This person must be capable of applying diversified knowledge of construction engineering principles and practices and independently making decisions on significant construction engineering problems. Elements to be inspected or monitored may include bridge hinges, falsework, pile driving, cofferdams, cast-in-place concrete, waterproofing, structural steel, bearings, expansion joints, precast concrete elements, maintenance or traffic and other similar activities.

This is NOT a Structural Design Engineer role. A Structures Representative is a local agency employee (or a consultant hired by a local agency) who performs quality assurance over the contractor’s work that involves structures and who performs the contract’s necessary structure-related administrative tasks.

WSP has offices in San Bernardino and Riverside. Projects may span multiple disciplines, such as roadway/highway and transit/rail construction.

Your Impact
  • Reviewing and inspecting plans and calculations for: falsework; shoring; staging; bridge removal; and other technical submissions, on City, County, Caltrans and other State projects

  • Responding to and effectively resolving field construction issues

  • Conducting meetings between contractor, owner, utilities and other project parties

  • Inspecting, documenting, and coordinating field test of construction materials

  • Analyzing construction costs of changed conditions, drafting change orders, and recommending claims dispositions

  • Preparing constructability reviews and reports

  • Assumes responsibility for field engineering, contract administration, inspection, testing, surveying, and quality control on one large or several small construction projects.

  • Supervises field inspection and field office personnel

  • Represents projects at meetings and conferences

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs

Who You Are
Required Qualifications
  • BSCE or related Degree

  • Current California PE license

  • Minimum of 12 years of experience, 5 of which are as a Structures Representative

  • Working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and material

  • Valid CA driver's license

  • Solid written and verbal skills

  • Experience working with railroads

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies

  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.

Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

Expected Salary: $203,850 - $249,150

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
