Job summary

D.A. Collins Companies, located at Wilton Campus in Wilton, NY, seeks a Structures Estimator to join our team. The role involves leading detailed cost estimates for bridges, foundations, and marine structures, reviewing plans and quantities, and crafting bid strategies.

Travel to project sites will be required as needed. The ideal candidate has 5+ years in heavy civil estimating, strong Excel/B2W skills, and the ability to manage multiple pursuits with tight deadlines while mentoring junior

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or related heavy civil construction experience.
• Minimum 5 years estimating experience in heavy civil construction.
• Experience estimating bridges, foundations, dams, or marine structures.
• Proficient with B2W Estimate and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Lead the preparation of detailed cost estimates for bridge, structures, foundation, marine, lock, dam, and transportation projects.
• Prepare or review quantity takeoffs, pricing, production rates, and assumptions for accuracy.
• Analyze plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, schedules, and contract requirements.
• Develop project phasing, construction sequencing, and bid strategies.
• Solicit subcontractor and supplier pricing and assess project risks.
• Conduct site visits to evaluate access, staging, and environmental constraints.
• Mentor junior estimators and assist in estimate reviews.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

• Lead the preparation of detailed cost estimates for bridge, structures, foundation, marine, lock, dam, and transportation projects.
• Prepare or review estimate quantity takeoffs, pricing, production rates, and assumptions for accuracy and completeness.
• Analyze plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, schedules, and contract requirements.
• Develop project phasing, construction sequencing, means and methods, and bid strategies.
• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing, identify scope gaps, and assess project risks.
• Conduct site visits and evaluate access, staging, utility conflicts, environmental constraints, and other project-specific challenges.
• Support Design-Build and Joint Venture pursuits when required.
• Mentor junior estimators and assist in estimate reviews and team development.
• Participate in project handoff meetings and post-bid reviews.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field; equivalent heavy civil construction experience may be substituted.
• Minimum 5 years of estimating experience in heavy civil construction.
• Experience estimating bridge construction, bridge rehabilitation, structural concrete, foundations, locks and dams, marine structures, or similar heavy civil infrastructure projects.
• Strong understanding of construction plans, specifications, unit pricing, means and methods, and construction sequencing.
• Proficiency with B2W Estimate (or equivalent), Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to manage multiple pursuits and deadlines simultaneously.
• Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as needed

Preferred Experience

• NYSDOT and/or VTrans bridge projects.
• Design-Build or Joint Venture pursuits.
• Structural steel erection, deep foundations, cofferdams, temporary works, and marine construction.
• Leadership, mentoring, or oversight of estimating personnel.

Compensation

• Competitive wage commensurate with experience. Excellent benefit package including company paid health, dental and vision insurance with a company-funded retirement plan.
• Salary Range $120,000 - $135,000
