Job summary

Inversion is seeking a Structures Engineer II to own cradle-to-grave development of primary and secondary structures on a reentry vehicle. You will work with cross-functional teams to solve packaging and manufacturability challenges and drive designs toward hardware readiness.

You’ll be a key member of the Mechanical team, reporting to the Director of Mechanical, leading structural sizing, integration, and trade studies in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical experience.
  • Typically 2 years of professional experience developing hardware for aerospace/defense.
  • Strong mechanical design skills focusing on structural interfaces, packaging, high-load environments, and mass optimization.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (NX/CATIA/SolidWorks).
  • Familiarity with structural analysis tools (ANSYS/Abaqus/NASTRAN/FEMAP).
  • Proficiency in engineering drawings with GD&T and technical documentation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; able to work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design and development of primary and secondary vehicle structures, including load paths and interfaces.
  • Own structural concept development from architecture to hardware realization.
  • Collaborate with analysis engineers on sizing, margins, and load assumptions.
  • Drive structural integration across subsystems including payload, avionics, and propulsion interfaces.
  • Support TPS-to-structure integration concepts and assembly considerations.
  • Produce CAD drawings and product definitions for high-quality hardware release.
  • Coordinate manufacturing, assembly planning, testing, and failure investigations.
