At Aurora Flight Sciences, we design, build, and fly advanced aircraft and enabling technologies from concept to reality. We are searching for a talented and self-motivated Structures Design Engineer to help us create the future of flight. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:
**This position is contingent upon contract award and funding approval of winning a program.**
- Work independently for short periods under guidance of other engineers
-Produce airframe structural configuration layouts and detail designs including preliminary sizing, joint layouts, interface boundary definitions of parts and assemblies employing metallic and composite materials.
-Create and maintain CAD solid models and drawings of installations, assembly and detail components that meet all requirements such as structural integrity, interface boundaries, weight and cost targets as directed by the project engineer.
-Coordinate with members of stress, manufacturing, procurement, quality control and other departments as required to mature the design from conception to production.
-Create documentation to support design decisions and to identify and resolve potential issues.
-Participate in periodic design reviews to ensure designs meet the requirements.
-Prepare detail design packages for review, check and release.
- Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master).
-Must be US person
- Experience with CATIA V5 w/ a focus on Generative Surface Design, Part Design and Assembly. Experience in Unigraphics or Siemens NX will be considered based on supporting background.
-Familiar with industry standards for the manufacture, repair and assembly of composite components for aerospace.
-Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
-Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and written.
-Strong interpersonal skills.
- Experience with StarTeam, or other product data management such as Enovia LCA or PDM.
-Experience with materials and processes development for structural parts and assemblies utilizing composite and metal materials.
-Experience with manufacturing composite parts and assemblies including manufacturing processes, quality buyoff and manufacturing work orders/documentation.
-Experience in composite materials research and development for Knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques and quality improvements methods to assure product(s) quality, cost, and schedule requirements are met or exceeded.
-Ability to maneuver around equipment in test labs and on aircraft and work in a manufacturing facility supporting all elements of composite and metal manufacturing.
-Travel may be required
-Must be on-site weekly in Manassas, VA
