Job summary

Catapult Federal Services is seeking a Communications Technician I in Columbus, OH to install low-voltage cabling and communications infrastructure on commercial sites. You will run and terminate cables, build out telecom closets, and support grounding and fire-stopping to ensure code-compliant installations.

The role emphasizes safety, precision, and teamwork with project leads and other trades in a fast-paced construction environment, handling field paperwork and ensuring timely completions.

Qualifications

• Familiarity with fire-stopping procedures and grounding practices.
• Ability to work with cable tray, J-hooks, D-rings, and other support systems.
• Strong attention to detail and accurate documentation habits.
• Ability to work safely in an active construction environment.

Responsibilities

• Install work area outlets for floor (monument), modular furniture (surface mount box), and wall (box eliminator) applications.
• Drop cable down walls using fish tape or other approved methods and route cable through modular furniture.
• Perform pre-termination procedures, including organizing, forming, dressing, and labeling cables, and determining length and slack.
• Suspend and support cable using cable tray, J-hooks, D-rings, bridal rings, and trapeze systems.
• Build out communications closets, including mounting/installing backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, and fiber optic hardware.
• Install grounding for racks, equipment, and cable as required.
• Perform fire-stopping procedures on fire walls, install sleeves, and pull cable through sleeves and core penetrations.
• Terminate low-voltage devices.
• Accurately and timely complete all required company paperwork, including timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, and tool transfers.
• Adhere to and participate in all company, customer, and industry quality and safety standards and regulations.
• Complete other responsibilities as assigned.
