What You'll Do
As the Field Representative, you will be the company's primary representative on the jobsite and will work closely with the General Contractor (GC), steel erector, owner and project management team.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Coordinate activities between the steel erector and the steel manufacturer
- Attend jobsite meetings with the GC, erector and owner
- Monitor daily construction activities and maintain accurate project records
- Help ensure safe work practices and OSHA compliance on the jobsite
- Inspect structural steel members and identify fabrication or fit-up issues
- Perform field measurements (VIF – Verify in Field) and verify existing structures and steel dimensions
- Read blueprints and compare drawings to actual field conditions
- Take photos and provide marked-up drawings when issues are identified
- Report problems quickly to the Project Manager and Detailer
- Verify T&M (Time & Material) back charges
- Help coordinate steel and deck deliveries, staging areas and unloading logistics
- Develop relationships with local steel fabricators, sheet-metal shops and survey companies for emergency/urgent project needs
- Perform basic field surveying and measurements
- Perform 3D scanning of structures for documentation, VIF and troubleshooting
- Deliver small materials, including bolts, to jobsites when needed
- Transport small materials or equipment between jobsites
- Operate a forklift or lull for loading and unloading materials when required
Hands-On Field Work
This is a hands-on construction position. You must be comfortable working around active steel erection sites.
The job may require you to:
- Climb ladders
- Work from lifts and man baskets
- Access staging areas
- Move around steel while it is being erected
- Perform field measurements and inspections at elevated locations
- Work outdoors and in changing weather conditions
All work must be performed in accordance with OSHA fall-protection requirements.
The ideal candidate will have:
- 5+ years of experience preferred in steel erection, structural steel or steel construction
- Experience working directly on construction jobsites
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and construction drawings
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with site leadership
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to perform basic field measurements
- Basic to moderate surveying experience is a plus
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and make decisions in the field
- A self-starter mentality and strong problem-solving skills
- Comfortable working at heights and around active steel construction
