Job Summary: A structural welder is responsible for welding parts and materials using FCAW, ensuring welds pass visual tests per AWS D1.1, and achieving Complete Joint Penetration welds passing Ultrasonic tests per AWS D1.1.

Key Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret shop details to determine specific welding requirements.
  • Adjust welding units to meet specified amperage and voltage standards.
  • Manually guide electrode or gun along weld lines, maintaining proper arc length and speed.
  • Weld in flat, horizontal, and vertical positions using FCAW.
  • Visually examine welds for bead size and specifications.
  • Identify finished parts using Qualifies Welder’s ID number.
  • Back gouge to sound metal to ensure Complete Joint Penetration welds pass ultrasonic testing.
  • Weld to pass visual inspections per AWS D1.1 code.
  • Follow safety protocols and report issues.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors for smooth production.
  • Maximize productivity and meet daily goals.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current welding certification.
  • Minimum 2 years welding experience.
  • Experience operating an overhead crane.
  • Ability to interpret welding detail drawings.
  • Ability to produce acceptable welds per AWS D1.1 standards.
  • Familiarity with welding equipment and tools.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Knowledge and adherence to safety procedures.
Physical Requirements
  • Lift and move up to 50lbs.
  • Stand, bend, twist, and reach for extended periods.
  • Work in noisy environments with PPE.
